Education concept. Student studying and brainstorming campus con

Whether online tutoring for physics is better than face to face tuition is down to personal opinion. All students learn differently and may see the benefits and drawbacks of both methods, deciding on their own personal preference. Let’s discuss this in more detail to give you a better idea of this debate.

Why face to face tuition might be better

Many students prefer face to face tuition. Of course, it does have its obvious benefits. The communication between the student and tutor is improved because you are in front of each other and can hear each other properly.

Sometimes, Wi-Fi issues and a lack of connection can make an online tutoring session glitch, meaning that you might not get as much out of the session as you could’ve done in person. Having the tutor right there in front of you could help you focus better as you are there in the room with them. Often, with online sessions, students can get distracted by their own living space and struggle to concentrate on a screen.

Screens are also bad for the eyes, adding to the negative impact that online tutoring may bring. Furthermore, if a tutor is in the room with you, they can easily pass over worksheets or show the student what they’re doing.

It’s easier to present yourself better in person, and tutors can see how their students are working better by peering over at their work. Online tutors may struggle to do this as there is a screen between them and the student.

They won’t be able to see what the student is writing unless there is an online writing facility, meaning that it may be harder to correct them if they are making mistakes. Therefore, there’re loads of benefits of doing face to face tutoring. It’s more intimate, can help students stay concentrated, and can help tutors’ teaching methods.

Why online tutoring may be better

However, it still must be considered that online tutoring holds a lot of benefits over face-to-face tutoring. With online tutoring, neither the tutor nor the student has to put the effort in to commute to a certain place, meaning that they both save money on transport.

This can be encouraging for students to take up tutoring, especially as it can sometimes be expensive. Furthermore, the tutor and student don’t have to worry about making it to the session on time as it is quite simple – all you need is a working computer and a stable internet connection!

Some students may face social anxiety with meeting new people in the flesh, so having an online session may be greatly preferred for some types of people. It all depends on the individual student.
